The game rules

Chess is played on a square board with 64 alternating light and dark squares arranged in an 8x8 grid. Each player starts with their own set of 16 pieces placed on the board. Each player has one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The pieces have different abilities and movements.

Chess's objective is to checkmate the king of the opposing player. This entails putting the enemy's king in a vulnerable situation where it cannot flee capture on the following move. In the event of a checkmate, the game is over immediately.

  • King: The crucial component. Any direction and one square can be moved.
  • The most potent piece is the queen. Any number of squares may be moved in any direction.
  • Rook: Has unlimited horizontal and vertical movement.
  • Knight: Jumps over other pieces while moving in an L-shape. It has the ability to move two squares in one direction before moving one square perpendicularly.
  • Bishop: Any number of squares may be moved diagonally.
  • Moves forward one square, but on its first move, it has the option to move two squares forward. It captures by moving diagonally forward.
